
Underpinning Heritage
All Hallows Staining Church, one of London's most historically significant medieval structures, required extensive structural support and temporary works during recent refurbishment. The church tower, dating back centuries, demanded careful engineering solutions to preserve its heritage while undertaking necessary repairs and modernisation.
As the temporary works designers, we developed a comprehensive support strategy to stabilise the church structure throughout the project. This involved detailed analysis of the existing masonry, assessment of load paths, and design of innovative temporary support systems that would minimise impact on the historic fabric whilst providing the necessary structural integrity.
Preserving heritage structures requires not just engineering expertise, but a deep respect for history and an understanding that today's solutions must serve future generations.
The underpinning process required sophisticated temporary support systems, including needle beams, temporary columns, and carefully sequenced construction methods.
